Three major publications are out this week that suggest we should be ready for a running coup, a planned terror attack and the subsequent power grab by Bannon and Trump. These publications are the Canberra Times out of Australia, CNN online, and The New Yorker. Not exactly radical rags. Let’s begin with the Canberra Times:
America’s military-industrial complex will use Trump’s presidency or end it
An unrestrained deep state under a pliant US president is the stuff of nightmare.

“The existence of the deep state, it can be assumed, has been known to all American presidents, some of whom have benefited politically. From Kennedy to Barack Obama, a tacit set of constraints has limited a president’s scope for action. But where does Donald Trump, the outsider who pledged to drain the Washington swamp, sit in relation to the deep state? What was really behind the FBI’s intervention in the campaign that was seen to benefit Trump?
Just where Trump stands on key issues – and how malleable he might be – is as intriguing to those who became insiders as well as everyone else. Steve Bannon, the right-wing Breitbart News chief who headed Trump’s campaign and has since become the chief White House strategist and, more controversially, a member of the powerful National Security Council, told Vanity Fare magazine last year that Trump was, in terms of a right-wing agenda, a “blunt instrument for us … I don’t know whether he really gets it or not”. (The comment carries echoes of the story, possibly apocryphal, circulating at the time of George W. Bush’s candidacy for the Republican nomination for the 2000 election, when he was vetted by a group of influential neoconservatives seeking to further their influence. “He is perfect,” one was quoted as saying, in reference to Bush’s ignorance.)
Two conflicting hypotheses suggest themselves. The first is that Trump is largely ignorant of the deep state, believing that he, as President, can run the US, and possibly much of the world, as he wishes, just like he runs his business empire. Such a scenario doesn’t augur well for his presidency. The second hypothesis is that he’s very much the deep state’s man; that he’s willing to do its bidding, and facilitate and not hinder its actions in any way – a scenario that spells global trouble.
If he’s not yet part of the deep state, did he signal his willingness to co-opt it in his first act as President, when he made the pilgrimage to the CIA headquarters at Langley, Virginia, just outside Washington? His words to the assembled spooks – extraordinary even for hyperbole-addicted Trump – were part pep talk, part declaration of love and, frighteningly, part blank cheque.”

The bulk of the above article hearkens back to Eisenhower’s famous speech on “The Military Industrial Complex”, and provides the reader with a solid understanding of “The Deep State”, which is always really in control. At least since the execution of President Kennedy in Dallas. It also suggests that Trump has already been absorbed into that organ like cheap vodka into fatty liver.
But things get weirder when CNN steps into the fray and warns of an impending coup:

Those who still refuse to take Trump seriously cite his incompetence for the rough start in office. Yet this blitzkrieg was intentional. “Get used to it. @POTUS is a man of action and impact … Shock to the system. And he’s just getting started” his counselor Kellyanne Conway tweeted Saturday.”

“As Conway implies, these first days of the Trump administration could be considered a prologue to a bigger drama, and one that reflects the thinking of Trump and Bannon alike. From their actions and pronouncements, we cannot exclude an intention to carry out a type of coup.
Many may raise their eyebrows at my use of this word, which brings to mind military juntas in faraway countries who use violence and the element of surprise to gain power. Our situation is different. Trump gained power legally but this week has provided many indications that his inner circle intends to shock or strike at the system, using the resulting spaces of chaos and flux to create a kind of government within the government: one beholden only to the chief executive.”

This article refers to but does not credit author Naomi Klein for her book “The Shock Doctrine”. In it, klein describes how CIA tactics to break down an individual and reprogram them was used to weaponize economics, and overthrow entire countries. This involves “re-patterning” and “psychic driving” to break apart reality and make it into something completely different. This is what Steve Bannon is doing to the United States as you read this piece.

“One of the questions raised by Trump’s claims that the media and the courts have endangered the country is what he would do in the event of a terrorist attack.
Jack Goldsmith, a former senior Justice Department official in the George W. Bush Administration, who helped design the post-9/11 anti-terror legal architecture, recently suggested that Trump might actually want his travel ban to be overturned. That way, in the wake of an attack, he can use the judiciary as a bogeyman and justify any new efforts to push through more extreme measures.
I asked Goldsmith and others what the menu of options might be for a President Trump empowered by the justifiable fears Americans would have in the aftermath of a serious attack. “If it is a large and grim attack, he might ask for more surveillance powers inside the U.S. (including fewer restrictions on data mingling and storage and queries), more immigration control power at the border, an exception to Posse Comitatus (which prohibits the military from law enforcement in the homeland), and perhaps more immigration-related detention powers,” Goldsmith wrote in an e-mail. “In the extreme scenario Trump could ask Congress to suspend the writ of habeas corpus, which would cut off the kind of access to courts you are seeing right now for everyone (or for every class of persons for which the writ is suspended).”

“Todd Breasseale, the former assistant secretary for public affairs at the Department of Homeland Security, was also alarmed. “I had a very similar discussion with a former senior intel official on this very issue, before Jack’s column,” he told me. “We both wholly believe that Trump needs a bogeyman. But, more importantly, he needs distraction and a blame source. In terrorists, he has his bogeyman. In his control of the prevailing press narrative via tweet, he has distraction. And, in the judiciary, he has a source of blame for why his way was right from the beginning.” Breasseale added, “I am fully confident that an attack is exactly what he wants and needs.”

To sum up:
* The Deep State is likely maneuvering Trump already.
* There are clearly elements of a coup in government occurring right now.
* Former Homeland Security officials believe Trump/Bannon need and want a terror attack to happen so they can seize all the reigns of power, perhaps changing the country forever.
